Forgiveness Video - The Affirmation Spot for Tuesday July 21, 2009

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D4VMZb8wLY]Mark Twain is quoted as saying, "Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it." Forgiveness is about letting go, acceptance, and taking a risk. It is a process of letting go of toxins that accumulate within us when they are not regularly cleansed through release. Forgiveness is a recognition that other people have failings just as we do. It is a recognition that they may not always act towards us to their highest capacity. We must accept this fact and them before we can forgive. Recognizing that they are in the same human situation that we are in is a great beginning point.Forgiveness is a risk. We risk our forgiveness being rejected or taken advantage of. This risk creates fear when we think about forgiving. We can overcome this by understanding that forgiveness, for all the good it does others, is mostly about us and our growth. If the other person benefits, then that is a double bonus. The other person's acceptance or rejection does not matter. We get the benefit either way. Here is a nice little video with some wonderful thoughts around the concept of forgiveness.
