Love Absolutely Everybody
Love absolutely everybody! It's Simpler.
As a planet, a nation, and as individuals we've created a society with too-low-a-bar for hatred and too-high-a-bar for love. There is a simple solution - love everybody. I'm sure a chorus of objections just rose up in your mind but hear me out.
First some well-known sayings on the point.
Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." There was no fine print, exclusions, or exemptions
Wayne Dyer used to say, "How other people treat you is their karma. How you respond is yours."
Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
There's a wise Native American saying that goes, "Every time you point a finger in scorn—there are three remaining fingers pointing right back at you."
This post isn't about judgment. We've all fallen short on this point. We've all participated in the divisiveness and tribalism that possesses social media and permeates our society. This post is simply to say, "Hey, notice it in your life and choose to do better." The excuses for hating are many and ego driven. The reason for love is singular and pure. Loving everyone changes the world in a way that betters it for you, me, and everyone else.
Many years ago, I had the good fortune to see Neale Donald Walsch live. This was at the height of his Conversations with God series’ popularity. He closed that night with a stirring story of God coming to all the little sparks of God (us) and asking for a volunteer to come to earth and be a horrific human being. God promised that through this person's actions very positive things would happen, but that this spark would be required to do unthinkable things. There was silence and no one wanted that assignment.
Finally, one little spark in the back volunteered on one condition. "When I am doing my worst down there, causing havoc and suffering to produce a higher good, someone remind me who I REALLY AM.
This what is really comes down to. When we forget who all of us really are, we're just very temporary masks cursing at other very temporary masks. When we remember who we all really are, love is the natural response. At least that’s how I see it. Agree? Disagree? Leave your comment below.
