A New Posidigm for Our World - The Affirmation Spot for Tuesday December 30, 2008
Today's Affirmation:"My world is what I make of it and I choose to make it a just place to be. Your world is what you make of it and you choose to make it a just place to be."(click the affirmation to hear it in mp3)I believe our world needs a new posidigm!About 18 months ago I coined a new term. I'm reintroducing it because I'm hoping it will really catch on. I believe it's a word that speaks to the direction our world needs to move. The word posidigm combines the words positive and paradigm.I searched for the term on all the major search engines and could not find a reference to it, so I just claimed it.Dictionary.com provides the following definitions - among others - for these two words:Positive - "Emphasizing what is laudable, hopeful, or to the good; constructive: a positive attitude toward the future; positive things to say about a painting."Paradigm - "A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline."So, a posidigm can be defined as:"Emphasizing a hopeful, good, or constructive set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitute your way of looking at reality." How much of the negativity, war, and chaos in our world is created by our habitual, limiting paradigms - our "negadigms"?. We need a new posidigm! Our planet and our species face real challenges in the coming decades and centuries. We have to face our challenges honestly, see through the chicanery of the fear peddlers, and build a new posidigm. This new posidigm must admit its own blindspots and not see the world through unrealistically rose-colored glasses. Its power will come from this honesty and its more positive view of our future and potential as individuals and as a species. As you might have gathered from this blog, I am a big believer in postive thinking. I know that if tomorrow six billion people on this planet demanded peace, justice, or freedom we would have it.I've had a number of well-meaning and intelligent people tell me these things are not possible in this world. My response is always the same. "They are not possible as long as that is our attitude."Work hard this week (and it is hard work) to stay positive about your path and about the world. Slowly but surely we can undo what is happening and bring this world to a better place. This week when someone asks you how you are or what you are doing, tell them you are busy buidling a new posidigm. Brick by brick, thought by thought, action by action, it is coming into view.Be peaceful Be prosperous!Ray
