I was a bit of child philosopher; often saying things and asking questions that made adults scratch their heads. I always felt like I had this nebulous connection back to wherever I was before I was here. Eventually, society and life events conditioned these ideas out of me. I drifted through my teens and early 20s without direction or purpose.

My journey in personal development began after I became severely ill and nearly died at 25. My life was a shambles. I had no career, no money, no relationship, and was emerging from a multi-month hospital stay. I realized that my thinking was the result of negative conditioning. I felt like a victim and believed the world was stacked against me. The way I saw it, I had a choice. I could either keep thinking the way I had learned to think and have the life that resulted from it or I could make a change.

Maybe you can relate?

Having almost died, I wanted to better understand how cultures around the world explain our existence and it's meaning. I studied the world's mythologies and spiritual traditions. I began reading writers like Joseph Campbell, Wayne Dyer, and Deepak Chopra to shift my mindset and broaden my perspective. Eventually, I began buying cassette tapes with affirmations and meditations to relax and build my confidence. I'd listen to the cassettes on a loop and listen to them all night.

Over time, I began writing and recording my own affirmations. I wanted affirmations that targeted my specific situation. About the same time, I began creating email chains with friends and co-workers sharing an inspirational "thought of the day." This was back in the 1990s before blogs.

Eventually, the results I'd experienced in my own life and my interest in the topics of personal development and spirituality led me to create The Affirmation Spot in 2007.

Today The Affirmation Spot is a multimedia platform sharing motivational content to people on six continents and more than 300,000 people each month across social media.

My home-recorded MP3 affirmations on dozens of topics are easy to download and incorporate into your daily routine. You'll also find thousands of written affirmations you can take and record yourself and hundreds of articles and videos with tips and information for living a better, more empowered life.
